Common Snakes Found Around Sydney

IMPORTANT: Many Australian snakes can look remarkably similar, particularly juveniles. Colour, pattern and head shape are not reliable methods of identification. Never rely on photographs or internet advice to identify a snake. Accurate identification should only be made by an experienced, licensed professional. Regardless of the species, always keep a safe distance and treat every snake as potentially venomous.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can you identify a snake from a photo?

Sometimes we may be able to provide an educated opinion, but photographs alone are often misleading. Lighting, angle, colour variation and age can all make accurate identification difficult. For safety, every unknown snake should be treated as potentially venomous.

  • Will you kill the snake?

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • How quickly can you attend?

We offer 24/7 emergency response and aim to attend as quickly as possible depending on your location and current demand.

  • What if the snake disappears?

This is very common. If it is safe to do so, keep watch from a distance and let us know where it was last seen. We can advise whether attendance is still recommended.

  • Why Are Snakes So Common in Sydney?

Sydney is surrounded by national parks, waterways, bush reserves and expanding suburban developments, making encounters with native snakes increasingly common. As urban areas continue to grow into natural habitats, snakes are often found in backyards, gardens, sheds, garages, schools, construction sites and parks.
